Yesterday the S&P 500 sold off early to 1056.88 before staging a nice rally to close at 1083.48. Last Wednesday we wrote a piece that reviewed our litmus test that all is well. First, the S&P 500 needs to move back above its prior high before the recent selloff. This level is 1131.23. We are not there yet

Coffee retailer Starbucks (SBUX) will report earnings after the close. The stock has had a nice run since the low in March of 2009. There is only about $1.50 of upside until the price target is hit. This is the story of the market about half the names are near price targets and half are far below their price targets just like Gilead Sciences (GILD) yesterday.

Today we end our review of retail stocks and tomorrow will return to analyzing earnings plays as we begin second quarter earnings review. We have noted retail stocks have been pounded since April on fears that the U.S. consumer is taking a break due to a weak balance sheet. The most common phrase being uttered these days is "double dip". Where there is fear, there is opportunity. Today the review continues of the top retailers by market cap. An apparel discount retailer makes our review today, TJX Company (TJX). This company is undervaluedby about 12%.

Last week, in the Investor's Edge section we updated the Gold and Energy Options section with a new option idea. The trade was a buy of SPY August $104 Calls. This trade has hit the jackppot. Watch for a flash alert today as we want to lock in gains. They were bought for $3.25 and closed yesterday at $5.61 for a gain of $2.36 or 73%.

This is the updated playbook. There has been weakness since our last update. As issues evolve each week, then audibles may need to be called with either additions or deletions to our portfolio. Cash is at 33% as we sold a name and added a buy. There are eight positions and four open positions.

The IPO and Secondary market is firming up as there continue to be deals on almost a daily basis. There have now been more Venture Capital backed IPOs than all of last year.
